GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, April 26, 2013) – Saturdays 17th running of the $200,000 Grade III, Texas Mile for three-year-olds and upward, has attracted a field of six contenders.

Two from the stable of Lone Star Park’s all-time leading trainer Steve Asmussen appear well suited for the one-mile distance, Master Rick and Prayer for Relief.

Master Rick is two for two at one mile most recently winning an allowance at Oaklawn Park on February 28, and a year ago winning the Northern Spur, also at Oaklawn. Owned by Richard L. Davis, the 4-yr-old colt by Master Command will be ridden by Oaklawn Park’s leading rider, Ricardo Santana, Jr.

Multiple graded stakes winner Prayer for Relief comes into the Texas Mile Saturday after a seven-month layoff. Finishing a troubled sixth in his last start, September 1, in the Washington Park Handicap at Arlington Park, the 5-yr-old horse by Jump Start, is the most accomplished of the field with career earnings of over $1.1 million. He is owned by Zayat Stables LLC and will be ridden by current leading rider at the meet, Glen Murphy.

Also of note, shipping from Kentucky is Good Lord. Trained by Forrest Kaelin and owned by Thomas D. Shank and Stan Young, the versatile 6-yr-old gelding by Greatness, has posted stakes wins at multiple distances of one mile, seven, six and a half and six furlongs. He has won stakes on dirt tracks listed as muddy, fast and good as well as on a yielding turf surface.

Another local horse, Wayne Sanders & Larry Hirsch’s Donoharm, certainly cannot be overlooked here.  Conditioned by Bret Calhoun, the 4-yr-old gelding by Lemon Drop Kid, was on a five-race win streak until finishing eighth in the Grade 3, Razorback Handicap March 9 at Oaklawn. He has been training well and has published some nice works leading into Saturday’s Texas Mile.

Scheduled as the ninth race on the 10-race program, the Texas Mile has an approximate post time of 5:19 p.m.

The field from rail out with jockey and morning line odds is as follows: Master Rick (Ricardo Santana, Jr., 5-2); Majestic Harbor (Lindey Wade, 4-1); Good Lord (Fernando De La Cruz, 3-1); Prayer for Relief (Glen Murphy, 7-2); Get in Da House (Don Simington, 10-1) and Donoharm (Cliff Berry, 6-1).

The Texas Mile has a possible bonus of $20,000 as the first leg of The Global Gaming Triple.

The GGT links the Texas Mile and the Lone Star Park Handicap with the Governor’s Cup at Remington Park. The Bonus is awarded on a point system for those horses that participate in all three races. Points are awarded as follows: five points to the winner, three points to second, two points for third and one point for fourth place finishers.
