GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, May 24, 2012) – Two-year-old filly, Fiftyshadesofgold drew off under a hand ride to win by an impressive 10 lengths in her debut race tonight, giving her trainer W. Bret Calhoun, his 600th all-time win at Lone Star Park on Thursday night.

“It’s nice to win that many races at the track where my career got started,” said Calhoun.

Calhoun was winless at Lone Star Park during its 1997 inaugural season.  He has since been in the top 10 of the trainer standings for 13 of 17 seasons. He was leading trainer of the 2010 and 2011 Spring Thoroughbred seasons and was just one win shy of sharing the title in 2012 with trainer, Danny Pish who edged Bret 42 to 41 wins. He has amassed earnings to date of over $11.8 million, at the Grand Prairie track. Congratulations Bret!


Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Global Gaming Solutions LLC, offers a 50-day 2013 Spring Thoroughbred Season which opens Thursday, April 11 and concludes on Saturday, July 6. Live racing will be held four days a week, Thursday and Friday at 6:35 p.m. (except Thursday, May 30 when there will be no live racing), and Saturday and Sunday at 1:35 p.m. (except Sunday, June 23 and Sunday, June 30.) The racing program on Memorial Day, May 27, will start at 1:35 p.m. Special twilight programs will be held at 5 p.m. on both Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4 (Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration). The track’s 26-day, 2013 Fall Meeting of Champions for American Quarter Horses will be held from Sept. 13 to Nov. 9.
